WELCOME TO POLLENSA

Situated in northern Mallorca, Port De Pollensa was once a simple fishing port but has now been transformed into a very attractive resort that is family friendly and particularly popular with British tourists.

This resort has a timeless sense of charm and has been popular with holidaymakers for many decades. It’s popularity is undoubtedly due to its unspoilt long sandy beaches lined by pine and palm trees, excellent opportunities for water sports, the varied selection of cafes and restaurants and excellent hotels. The unspoilt beauty of this port town is complimented by the absence of high rise hotel/apartment blocks due to prohibitive building regulations making it an attractive location.

The stretch of bay known as Pine Walk in Port De Pollensa has long been home to wealthy Spanish families who built beautiful retreats there in the early part of the 20th century. Many Hollywood stars and famous celebrities have stayed in the  renowned Hotel Formentor located there including Grace Kelly and Prince Ranier, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Charlie Chaplin and the British P.M. Winston Churchill.  In fact Pine Walk was the inspiration for Agatha Christie when she wrote ‘Problems at Pollensa Bay’ in the 1930s.

The Island’s cycling industry is now worth a reported six million euros a year, and Port de Pollensa is one of its central hubs with the highly successful Sky team basing their pre-season camps in the area of Port de Pollensa and Alcúdia. Port De Pollensa has now become a major base for cyclists visiting Mallorca who want to cycle the diverse array of northern routes.

Port De Pollensa also offers some fantastic scenery for keen walkers at the Boquer Valley walk and for those who prefer their walk to be on a golf course there is Golf Pollensa, a nine-hole course on the main Palma road. There is also an 18-hole course Alcanada, near Alcúdia, which boasts stunning views, and is a challenging, top-level golf course.

There are many excellent restaurants in Port De Pollensa including the Michelin starred Argos Restaurant, Stay and La Lonja. Tolo’s restaurant is famous amongst the cycling community and Sir Bradley Wiggins winning 2012 bike and distinctive yellow Sky team shirt is displayed there with pride. Port De Pollensa is however not renowned for its nightlife, which is a major part of its family-friendly appeal.

Pollensa is just a few kilometres away from Port De Pollensa and is a historical town with a rich history. It has many attractive narrow streets to meander around and an impressive main square that is lined with cafés, restaurants and bars in which to sit and watch the world go by. In recent years a colony of artists, writers and musicians have settled in Pollensa inspired by its beauty and simplicity.
